Additional Trend Information

New York State voters approve 54 - 32 percent of the job U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer is doing, his lowest score since a 52 - 18 percent rating May 2, 2000, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today.

Voters oppose the Iran nuclear pact 59 - 32 percent and say 57 - 31 percent that it will make the world less safe, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds.

Schumer's opposition to the nuclear deal makes them more likely to vote for him, 24 percent say, while 17 percent say less likely and 55 percent say it won't affect their vote.

New York State voters give President Barack Obama a 51 - 46 percent job approval.

Schumer deserves to be reelected in 2016, voters say 56 - 34 percent. It would be good for New York State if Schumer becomes Senate Democratic leader, voters say 61 - 27 percent.

Voters give U.S. Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand a 49 - 25 percent job approval rating, her lowest score since a 47 - 26 percent rating February 15, 2012.

"New York State voters agree with Sen. Charles Schumer's opposition to the Iran nuclear deal, but that doesn't stop the drop in his job approval rating," said Maurice Carroll, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. "Most voters still think Schumer has earned re- election and his likely elevation to U.S. Senate Democratic leader will be good for the state."

From September 10 - 15, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,366 New York State voters with a margin of error of +/- 2.7 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.

The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts public opinion surveys in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Iowa, Ohio, Virginia, Colorado and the nation as a public service and for research.
