June 7, 2013 - Schwartz, Best-Known Of Unknown Dems, Tops Corbett, Quinnipiac University Pennsylvania Poll Finds; Girl Next Door Clinton Tops Native Son Santorum In 2016 PDF format With the Pennsylvania governor's race still more than one year away, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz leads the a pack of largely unknown Democratic challengers and tops Republican Gov. Tom Corbett 45 - 35 percent, according to a Quinnipiac University poll released today. In another possible general election matchup, State Treasurer Rob McCord tops Corbett 43 - 35 percent. In an even longer look at the 2016 presidential campaign, former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton of neighboring New York tops former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum, the native son, 53 - 36 percent, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University poll finds. U.S. Rep. Schwartz leads the Democratic primary field with 18 percent, while no other contender tops 5 percent, with 63 percent undecided. Facing Gov. Corbett, she leads 51 - 28 percent among women. Men are divided with 42 percent for Corbett and 39 percent for Schwartz. She takes Democrats 86 - 5 percent and independent voters 36 - 29 percent, while Republicans go to Corbett 75 - 7 percent. Schwartz leads in most areas of the state, while Corbett leads in central Pennsylvania. "Already unpopular with Pennsylvania women, Gov. Tom Corbett trails the leading female challenger, U.S. Rep. Allyson Schwartz, and State Treasurer Rob McCord," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Polling Institute. "Election Day is 17 months away, but Schwartz is in a strong position to become Pennsylvania's first female Governor." Pennsylvania voters say 52 - 32 percent that Corbett does not deserve to be reelected. Women turn thumbs down 55 - 27 percent, as men say no 49 - 38 percent. Voters disapprove 48 - 35 percent of the job Corbett is doing, close to his all-time low of 50 - 35 percent in a June 27, 2012, Quinnipiac University survey. Women disapprove 52 - 30 percent, while men disapprove 45 - 41 percent. Corbett gets a negative 30 - 42 percent favorability rating, with 25 percent who don't know enough about him to form an opinion. For Schwartz, 72 percent don't know enough to form an opinion. For McCord, 85 percent don't know enough. 2016 Presidential Race Women drive Ms. Clinton's lead over Santorum, backing her 59 - 30 percent, while men back the Democrat 46 - 41 percent. She leads 90 - 5 percent among Democrats and 51 - 28 percent among independent voters, while Republicans go to Santorum 78 - 13 percent. Clinton also tops Kentucky U.S. Sen. Rand Paul 52 - 37 percent. Vice President Joseph Biden tops Santorum 46 - 39 percent and edges Paul 45 - 41 percent. Clinton scores a 56 - 37 percent favorability rating among Pennsylvania voters. Favorability ratings for other 2016 contenders are: 49 - 42 percent for Biden; Negative 39 - 44 percent for Santorum; 35 - 30 percent for Paul. "Hillary Clinton hasn't uttered a whisper about running for president, but Pennsylvanians are giving her full-throated support," Malloy said. President Barack Obama gets a split 48 - 48 percent job approval rating from Pennsylvania voters. From May 30 - June 4, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,032 registered voters with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points. Live interviewers call land lines and cell phones.
