November 21, 2017 - 60% Of U.S. Women Say They've Been Sexually Harassed Quinnipiac University National Poll Finds; Trump Job Approval Still Stuck Below 40% PDF format Additional Trend Information Sample and Methodology detail Sixty percent of American women voters say they've experienced sexual harassment, according to a Quinnipiac University national poll released today. Among women who say they've been harassed, 69 percent say they've experienced it at work, as 43 percent say social settings; 45 percent say on the street and 15 percent say it happened at home, the independent Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pe-ack) University Poll finds. Among American men voters, 20 percent say they've experienced sexual harassment. Among all American voters, 64 percent know someone who has experienced sexual harassment and 30 percent know someone who has sexually harassed someone else. There is no gender gap as 88 percent of men and 89 percent of women say sexual harassment of women is a serious problem. A small gender gap opens as 59 percent of all American voters, 56 percent of men and 62 percent of women, say sexual harassment of men is a serious problem. Because of recent media attention to allegations of sexual harassment, 55 percent of voters say people have a better understanding of harassment and 62 percent of voters say people are more likely to be held accountable for sexual harassment. American voters say 60 - 28 percent that if Roy Moore is elected to the U.S. Senate from Alabama, the U.S. Senate should vote to expel him. Republicans say 49 - 33 percent that Moore should not be expelled. Every other listed party, gender, education, age and racial group says expel him. "A vast majority of American men and women are deeply troubled by sexual harassment and the numbers underscore why. A stunning six in ten women say they have been victimized," said Tim Malloy, assistant director of the Quinnipiac University Poll. "Roy Moore may make it to the Senate chambers, but an overwhelming majority of American voters would like to rip the welcome mat out from under him and send him packing back to Alabama." If multiple women have accused a political candidate of sexual harassment, 62 percent of American voters say they definitely would not vote for that candidate, while 27 percent say they would consider voting for the candidate. Republicans are divided as 43 percent say they would consider voting for the candidate and 41 percent say they definitely would not vote for the candidate. President Trump's Approval Rating American voters disapprove 55 - 38 percent of the job President Donald Trump is doing. This compares to a 58 - 35 percent disapproval in a November 14 Quinnipiac University Poll. President Trump has not hit the 40 percent approval mark since June 29. Trump is not fit to serve as president, voters say 54 - 43 percent, compared to a 57 - 40 percent "not fit" measure November 14. The president does not respect women as much as men, American voters say 59 - 34 percent. Republicans say 66 - 27 percent that Trump respects women as much as men. White men are divided 47 - 47 percent and white voters with no college degree are divided as 47 percent say he does and 46 percent say he does not. Every other listed group says he does not respect women as much as men. From November 15 - 20, Quinnipiac University surveyed 1,415 voters nationwide with a margin of error of +/- 3.1 percentage points, including the design effect. Live interviewers call landlines and cell phones. The Quinnipiac University Poll, directed by Douglas Schwartz, Ph.D., conducts nationwide public opinion surveys, and statewide polls in Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, Florida, Ohio, Virginia, Iowa and Colorado as a public service and for research.
